Rainy Day Attractions Around TacomaIf you live in the Pacific Northwest, you’ve had your share of rainy days. While a shower might chase you out of a park or keep you from hitting a hiking trail, you shouldn’t let it stop you from going out and having a good time. So when the weather decides not to cooperate, you can still go to one of the following Tacoma, Washington locations to have some fun.

LeMay: America’s Car Museum

LeMay sits just west of the Tacoma Dome below the overpass where I-5 meets I-705, a fitting place for a car museum. All told, LeMay holds more than 350 vehicles including a 250-strong permanent collection and 100 loaners from other museums, just for starters. The collection also includes plenty of memorabilia and exhibits that honor Route 66, British vehicles from the 60s, alternative fuel cars, supercars, and NASCAR vehicles. Tickets for adults cost $18.

WiggleWorks Kids

WiggleWorks Kids has two locations, one in Bellevue and one in the South Hill Mall in Puyallup. Both are indoor playgrounds and play areas designed for kids four feet tall and under, with lots of things to climb on, kick around, interact with, and otherwise enjoy. However, WiggleWorks is a “drop in” instead of a “drop off” play area, which means they expect parents to stick around and supervise their kids. On weekdays a day pass is $7.50 per child, and on weekends the cost is $10 plus $8 for each sibling.

Tacoma Comedy Club

For those rainy evenings, you can stay inside and have a few laughs at the Tacoma Comedy Club on Market Street downtown. The club offers shows every night at 8 and 10:30 p.m. You need to be 18 to get into the first show and 21 to get into the second. Ticket prices range from $10-$20 and the shows include national talent, local comedians, and open mic nights where amateurs can test out their skills. The club has a two-item minimum, but those can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages or food.

Tacoma Art Museum

The Tacoma Art Museum is on Pacific Avenue just north of the University of Washington campus. The museum is open every day except Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. However, you can stop by free on the third Thursday of any month between 5 and 8 p.m. The Tacoma Art Museum opened its doors over 80 years ago, and it has more than 4,500 works that display the history and creativity of the West Coast in general and the Pacific Northwest in particular.

If you live in Tacoma or another part of the Puget Sound area, you’re probably used to dealing with a few rainy days. Fortunately, that means there are plenty of places you can go in the area that will let you spend the day out and have plenty of fun no matter how many people are coming or how many inches of rain decide to fall.
