4 Safety Features to Look for in a Family Car

March 10th, 2016 by

When shopping for a family car, the first thing to consider is safety. After all, your new vehicle has to protect your family from inherent dangers on today’s roadways. These safety features are the most important things to look for, so place them at the top of your list.

Body Construction

The body of your vehicle includes the passenger, rear end, and front engine compartment. It is very important that the entire body be strong and designed to protect your family in case of a crash. Reinforced steel is just the beginning. You should also make sure that your car knows how to withstand a crash. Honda’s ACE Body Structure distributes the intense energy generated during a crash through the front side of the car, away from the passenger area. This design helps reduce the impact of the crash on the passengers.

Air Bag Positioning

Air bags come standard in just about every new car today. However, not all air bags are equal. Some air bags offer protection only during certain types of collisions. For instance, a front driver and passenger air bag will only protect you and your passenger during a front-end collision. What happens if your vehicle goes into a roll or is in a side-on collision? Curtain air bags help reduce injury during these non-frontal collisions, offering protection for more types of accidents. Make sure your next family vehicle has them!

Advanced Sensing Technology

Vehicles today have all types of bells and whistles. Technology has really advanced just in the last few years. For instance, many vehicles now offer lane departure and collision-sensing radar. This sensing technology gives you, the driver, an incredible advantage similar to having an extra set of eyes on the road. With all the distractions on the road (and in your car), this technology is no longer a luxury you can do without.

Look for vehicles offering lane departure warning, front and rear collision warning, lane assist, and adaptive cruise control, a feature that automatically adjusts your cruise control speed when the car in front of you suddenly slows down. One more advanced sensing technology is Honda’s CMBS, or Collision Mitigation Braking System. This system uses a highly advanced radar to detect objects in your immediate path, and when a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes — a real life-saving feature!

Advanced Rearview Camera

Today, a rearview camera is more than just a quick, easy way to see what is behind you. It can do so much more, such as protect you from rear-end collisions and prevent injury to pedestrians or damage to objects you can’t see. Don’t settle for any ordinary rearview camera; get an advanced system with multiple angles of view. Honda’s multi-angle rearview camera gives you more visibility so you can see all objects clearly. The top, and wide-angle views offer visibility in all sorts of situations.

All of these advanced safety features can prevent a terrible and senseless accident. Don’t let your family fall victim to needless injury or worse — look for each one of these safety features in your next family car.
