Civic vs. Accord: How to Decide Between Classic Honda Models

However, even if your heart is set on purchasing a Honda, you may encounter difficulty picking the best model to buy. The Honda Civic and the Honda Accord are two popular classic Honda models. Here is some information about both vehicles that will help you make an informed decision.

Power (Engine)

Many drivers consider the power of the engine to be the most important factor when deciding which car to buy. The 2016 Honda Civic features two engines: the 1.5L 4-cylinder and 2.0L 4-cylinder. The 2016 Honda Accord also features two engines, which are the 2.4L 4-cylinder and the 3.5L V6.

In terms of the performance of the engine, the Honda Accord is the best choice. While the performance of the Civic ranges from 158 to 174 HP, the performance of the Accord ranges from 185 to 278 HP.

Fuel Economy

The fuel economy of a vehicle is probably the most important factor to you if you’re all about saving money. More and more drivers are becoming conscious of the importance of a good fuel economy, due to the rising prices of gas.

In terms of fuel economy, the 2016 Honda Civic base model is definitely the better choice. The fuel economy of the 2016 Honda Accord Sedan base model is up to 27 mpg in the city and up to 37 mpg on the highway. While this fuel economy is certainly impressive, the fuel economy of the 2016 Honda Civic base model beats it with up to 31 mpg in the city and up to 42 mpg on the highway.

The 2016 Honda Accord Sedan does have a higher fuel capacity than the 2016 Honda Civic base model, to make up for the lower fuel economy. The fuel capacity of the 2016 Honda Accord is 17.2 gallons, while the fuel capacity of the Civic is just 12.4 gallons.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, the Honda Accord and Honda Civic are equal for the most part. Some of the safety features of the Accord include the Brake Assist, the Electronic Brake Distribution, hill start assist, and stability control. Not only does the Accord feature six airbags, but it also features the SmartVent technology for the side airbags.

The Honda Civic’s safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warnings, and lane-departure warnings. The Civic’s Honda Sensing Package, which includes the Collision Mitigation Braking, has permitted this vehicle to earn the “superior” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the category for front collision avoidance.

Extra Features

The 2016 Honda Civic and the 2016 Honda Accord both have features that will make the driving experience much more enjoyable and relaxing. Some of the extra features of the Civic include dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch i-MID display (with SMS text-messaging and Pandora audio streaming), and Bluetooth connectivity.

Some of the extra features of the Accord include rain-sensing wipers, heated rear seats, and automatic high beams.

While both the Honda Civic and Accord are excellent vehicles, these automobiles cater to very different needs. As long as you review the information when comparing the two vehicles, you should have no problem deciding between these two classic Honda models.
