2019 Honda Pilot and Insight Named Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS

Great news for Honda shoppers: two 2019 Honda models were recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) with the highest overall safety rating of Top Safety Pick+. The refreshed 2019 Honda Pilot SUV and stylish all-new 2019 Honda Insight hybrid sedan were honored with the award for their ratings in various stringent IIHS tests.

The recognition is a testament to Honda’s high standards for safety. To qualify for the 2018 Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must earn “Good” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests, as well as an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating in the passenger-side small overlap test. Additionally, the vehicle must have an available front crash prevention system that earns an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating, plus available headlights that received a “Good” rating.

Thanks to top ratings of “Good” in five of six crashworthiness tests, a “Good” rating for its headlights, and a “Superior” rating of its Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)1, the redesigned and refreshed 2019 Honda Pilot was named a 2018 Top Safety Pick+.

“The updated Pilot may have more aggressive styling to better match its true capability, but we also got aggressive on safety performance and driver-assistive features.” said Ray Mikiciuk, assistant vice president of Honda Automobile Sales. “IIHS rated Pilot’s front crash prevention system ‘Superior,’ and that’s just one of many features included in Honda Sensing, now standard on all Pilot trims.”

2019 Honda Insight

With top ratings of “Good” in every crashworthiness test, a “Good” rating for its LED headlights, and a “Superior” rating of its Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)1, the all-new 2019 Honda Insight also received the 2018 Top Safety Pick+ award.

“Insight continues to prove that it’s much more than just a pretty face with great fuel-efficiency ratings.” said Ray Mikiciuk. “With standard Honda Sensing active safety tech and a Top Safety Pick+ rating, Insight is a hybrid with some serious safety chops.”

Standard across all trim levels of the 2019 Pilot and 2019 Insight is the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive and active safety technology. One feature of the suite is Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)1 with Forward Collision Warning, which earned each model a “Superior” rating on their front crash prevention systems. Other Honda Sensing features include Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)2 with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)3, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)4.

LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

4) ACC cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather or on winding roads. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
