Whether on the body or the glass, water spots are unattractive, and they can even hamper your vision when driving. But there is hope! We’re here to discuss the cause of water spots, how to get rid of them, and how to prevent them altogether.

Causes of Water Spots on Your Vehicle

The most common cause of water spots on your car or truck is from hard water buildup. When hard water is left to dry on the car, these spots will form. This usually happens when you don’t dry your car after a wash, when your car comes into contact with a sprinkler, or even when rain sits on the surface for a long time. Minerals and dirt in the water are left behind after the water evaporates, or even worse the water may have something corrosive in it.

Removal of Water Spots on your Vehicle

The best course of action is to remove the water as soon as your can, so the spots don’t have a chance to set in. If it is too late for that, give your car a good cleaning with the least chemically-harsh product you can find that is made for vehicles. If the cleaning doesn’t do it, use detailer clay. The clay is good at pulling impurities off the surface that are stuck on. If clay doesn’t do it, the stains are likely etched into the surface. At this point, your vehicle will have to be polished.

Preventing Water Spots

Here are a few tips to prevent water spots on your vehicle:

  • Wax the car often.

  • Use a waterless car wash.

  • Always remove excess water after a wash immediately.

  • Use a car sealant to prevent water from adhering to the vehicle and causing spots.
