Nationwide Honda Airbag Safety Recall June 2015

We just wanted to remind or drivers about the safety recall that Honda announced on June 15, 2015. The announcement has expanded on a previous announcement made in May by Honda. Instead of staying in a limited area, Honda has made the recall of front passenger airbag inflators in the 2003-2007 Accord and 2001-2005 Civic, nationwide.

About the Nationwide Honda Recall

On June 15^th, Honda America initiated a national recall to replace Takata front passenger airbag inflators, free of charge, in particular 2003-2007 Accord models and 2001-2005 Civic models. Honda is taking such precautions based on a reported defect by the Takata company. The recall affects around 1.4 million airbag inflators in front passenger airbags that were not subject to either a safety improvement campaign or recall in the past. Registered owners of these vehicles will be notified by mail within 60 days, and information about the recall can be found at www.recalls.honda.com. More About the Honda Airbag Inflator Recall

The initial announcement from Honda about the Takata front airbag inflator recall came on May 28^th. At that time, Honda was going to recall a smaller population of the vehicles, based off the particular regional nature of the defect determination that was made by Takata. The initial recall included around 350,000 vehicles that would receive new passenger airbag inflators. The NHTSA decided that the statement by Takata requires a national recall instead, adding up to just under 1.4 million inflators, for a total of 2.3 million airbag inflators.
