2024 Ridgeline Gets More Rugged
The Honda Ridgeline expertly spans the gap between rugged truck capability and the comfort of a family SUV. It’s seen a number of improvements over the years, and Honda’s giving it a mild refresh for 2024 that brings a new Trailsport trim, more tech, and revised styling.
Honda introduced the Ridgeline TrailSport, which brings all-terrain tires, torque vectoring all-wheel drive, and unique styling elements, including a unique grille. It’s also offered in an exclusive Diffused Sky Blue color and comes with underbody skid plates to protect its vital components from bumps and bangs off-road.
The torque vectoring all-wheel drive system gives the Ridgeline the ability to shift power between the wheels that need traction the most. It can send up to 70 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels and split that torque 100 percent between the individual wheels. Honda gave the truck selectable off-road driving modes that help it conquer challenging terrain, such as loose gravel, sand, and snow.
Honda left the truck’s V6 engine alone for 2024. The 3.5-liter mill makes 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque and sends it to all four wheels through a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission. That powertrain gives the Ridgeline a 5,000-pound towing capacity and a 1,583-pound payload rating.
The Ridgeline’s bed is extra wide, allowing it to carry four-foot-wide items between the wheel wells. Made from glass-fiber-reinforced composite, the bed is designed to resist dents and scratches without needing a bedliner. Adding to its utility, there’s an under-bed trunk area that extends the bed to more than seven feet, giving it the ability to carry dynamic loads of up to 300 pounds. The tailgate also features two molded-in seats.
Inside, Honda equips a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard tech includes three-zone climate controls, Bluetooth, USB inputs, keyless entry with push-button start, and more.
The Honda Ridgeline features a suite of standard advanced driver aids that include a rearview camera, forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings with lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims add blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, automatic high beams, and parking sensors.
