Honda Announces Plans to Speed Up Electrification Process
Honda has big goals when it comes to electrification and carbon neutrality, and this month, they’re taking big steps to meet those goals. As a part of the global effort to achieve carbon neutral status by 2050, Honda has ramped up production of its electric motorcycles and cars around the globe. While we wait for more electric models to arrive in the U.S., you can learn more about what Honda has been up to in other parts of the world.
Electrified Hondas Around the Globe
As a Japanese company with a global market, Honda has recognized the need to focus on what it does best in different regions around the globe. They’ve announced the release of three new electric bikes for the Chinese market, primarily marketed toward Generation Z buyers: the Cub e:, Dax e:, and ZOOMER e:. All fall into the Chinese Electric Bicycle classification of vehicles with a top speed of 25 km/h or below, making them the ideal form of travel for young drivers. These bikes represent the culture around bikes in China as a way for Gen Z consumers to express themselves as well as reach their destination. Inspired by previous popular models, these new electric bikes are more customizable to appeal to younger buyers.
Compact, affordable, and stylish modes of transportation are more appealing to Chinese consumers than ever before, and Honda hopes that this launch will be just the beginning. The brand plans to introduce 10 electric bikes and mopeds around the globe, with production increasing this month and into the rest of the year and into 2025. With three other electric bikes and motorcycles already being sold in the Japanese market, that leaves just four more to be introduced worldwide. The BENLY e: is marketed as business-use electric scooters, providing the mobility and convenience that many Japanese consumers desire with features like a large front basket, flat rear deck, and easy hill climbing.
The use of electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles is steadily gaining popularity in Honda’s other markets, including North America. Although no announcements have been made, we can only hope that at least one of their 10 planned releases will come to the United States after seeing the innovation and design of current Chinese and Japanese models. By utilizing dual lithium-ion batteries, quick and easy charging, and impressive driving ranges, we can expect more drivers to adopt electric modes of transportation other than cars and SUVs. With the current popularity of its current hybrid models here in the U.S., there’s a good chance that electric bikes like the Cub e: and BENLY e: will come our way.
