Honda Brings Back the LX Trim for 2023

Although they announced the departure of the LX trim from this year’s models, Honda recently gave word that it’s coming back for 2023. That’s good news for those on the market for a new Civic or CR-V for several reasons, mainly by increasing availability and speed of production. After chip shortages affected the auto industry in the past few years, production has slowed and greatly reduced new vehicle availability. The goal with the LX trim is to reduce not only the price, but also the number of features, making them easier to produce and more available to consumers.

That doesn’t mean that either model is lacking, though. The Honda Civic LX, like the Sport trim, will reportedly come equipped with the standard 2L In-Line 4-Cylinder Engine capable of 158hp. It should also have an automatic CVT with no option for manual, although that is available at higher trims. The Civic comes in both a sedan and hatchback body style, and the starting price for the LX should come in at $24,545 and $25,545. That’s a $1,400 price drop from the next trim level, although there’s no official word about what specs and features may be cut in order to reduce the price. If it’s anything like the CR-V, the Civic LX should include the basics like Driver Assistive Features and a touchscreen infotainment system.

The 2023 Honda CR-V LX gets a much larger price drop down $3,200 from the next trim, bringing it to $28,410 MSRP. It has the same 190hp Turbocharged engine, but goes without heated front seats, moonroof, and some advanced driver assist safety features. However, the LX trim still comes with tons of perks like Honda Sensing, a 7-inch color touchscreen with Bluetooth, multi-angle rearview camera, and adaptive cruise control. There are four higher trim levels to provide even more options, but the LX offers up plenty for a great price.
