Honda Makes Organizational Changes as Electrification Advances
Honda has never been afraid to make big changes to meet goals. As the world’s largest manufacturer of combustion engines, the brand has always led the way towards new advancements and creative innovations. Now, as production shifts from combustion engines to electric motors and batteries, Honda is ready to pave the way for worldwide electrification. In the wake of such changes, Honda has announced major shifts in organization and operation in order to meet their electrification goals.
Last year, Honda started the process of planning a directional shift toward the electric production process. Those plans went into place earlier this month as part of the worldwide effort to expand their mobility services and ramp up electric vehicle production in their various markets around the globe. Efforts are being made at the local, regional, and corporate levels to solidify strategies toward the electric production process. Honda has identified three key areas to focus on: their Electrification Business Development Operations, reorganization of their Regional Operations, and two new corporate functional operations.
Electrification Business Development Operations
One of the largest areas of focus is the ramping up of electric production and product development. It’s necessary in order to meet their goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, so the Electrification Business Development Operations was created. Starting April 1, the group started the process of strategizing battery electric vehicle production and development of their electric vehicle departments. In the worldwide market, that includes Honda motorcycles and other mobility products that make up a huge portion of their consumer base. That means that we could see all-new EV models in the states to join the likes of the Accord and CR-V Hybrids.
Regional Operations
In order to consolidate and simplify regional operations, Honda is combining its six regions into three: North America, China, and Associated Regions. That will allow each region to focus more on its market, creating products that appeal to its customer base.
Corporate Operations
Two new operations are being created to strengthen its corporate strategy. Corporate Strategy Operations will focus on creating and executing its corporate plans and procedures, while Corporate Administrations Operations looks to make the most of its corporate resources.
