Honda Prologue Announced with 300-mile Range
Honda has released their first-ever all-electric SUV, and it is called the Prologue. It is expected to have an EPA-estimated range of 300 miles. The name is supposed to symbolize the SUV’s role in the EV strategy Honda has in store for U.S. buyers.
Trims & Price
The 2024 Honda Prologue will be available in three trim levels: EX, Touring, and Elite, with a base MSRP in the upper $40,000 range before government incentives or tax credits. The Prologue will be standard with Front-wheel drive (single motor), with All-wheel drive (dual motor) being an option. Each model will have an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Google built-in, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster display. Elite models have a 7×3-inch head-up display.
Charging
When it comes to charging, the Prologue can utilize DC fast charging with rates up to 155 kW. It features an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can recharge 65 miles of range in around 10 minutes. Included with the purchase of your Prologue, Honda is giving buyers the ability to choose between three charging packages through HHE, Honda Home Electrification. HHE aims to take the guesswork out of finding the right charging station and installer for your needs with their online marketplace that connects Honda EV customers with pre-vetted local installers.
Charging packages that Honda provides are:
- Home Charging Station (11.5 kW) and $100 Public Charging Credit, plus $500 Installation Incentive (via (HHE – see below)
- Portable Charging Kit (7.6 kW) and $300 Public Charging Credit, plus $250 Installation Incentive (via HHE)
- $750 Public Charging Credit
Safe As Possible
As Honda is known to be a company built around safety, the Prologue will be nothing less than one of the safest vehicles on the road when it becomes available. The company is targeting a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and NHTSA 5-star crash test ratings. It would be no surprise if the Prologue is awarded as a Top Safety Pick+ since 7 Honda vehicles are currently TSP and TSP+ winners. This includes the 2023 Honda Accord, 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback, 2023 Honda Civic Sedan, 2023 Honda CR-V, 2023 Honda HR-V, 2023 Honda Odyssey, and the 2023 Honda Pilot. Standard will be the excellent Honda Sensing® system that features Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, and Rear Pedestrian Alert.
A Word From Lance Woelfer
When asked, Lance Woelfer, the assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., had this to say about the new all-electric SUV: “The arrival of the all-new Honda Prologue is a pivotal moment for the brand as Honda begins the transition to our zero-emissions future. Prologue is aptly named as our first volume Honda EV, a stylish, sporty and spacious SUV that will take us toward our vision of 100% zero emissions vehicle sales by 2040.”
Size and Space
Honda has always been a company that knows how to maximize interior volume without creating a larger-than-needed vehicle. There will be 25.2 cu.ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats, and with the seats folded, customers will have up to 57.7 cu.ft. of space, plus an extra .5 cu.ft. under the cargo floor. The Prologue is roughly 8 inches longer than a CR-V and 5 inches wider.
Power & Wheels
Honda says all-wheel-drive models will have 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. EX and Touring models will be standard with 19-inch wheels wrapped in 255/60/R19 tires. Elite trim will come standard with 21-inch wheels and 275/45/R21 tires.
