What is Honda Sensing?

With more distractions than ever, it can feel like safe driving is an uphill battle. Phones, food, traffic – it all adds up to make for a stressful driving experience. Honda is at the forefront of relieving some of that stress with driver assist features and safety technology through the application of Honda Sensing. Available or standard on all Honda models at Honda of Sumner, it’s one of the latest ways you can keep you and your family safer and more aware on the road.
Honda Sensing: Safety for Everyone
First introduced on the 2015 Honda CR-V, Honda Sensing is the brand’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that features a suite of safety technologies. Honda Sensing began with “sensor fusion” technology used as a means to mitigate collisions and improve driver safety. It initially utilized a combination of two technologies – a windshield-mounted camera and millimeter-wave radar mounted behind the grille. Together, the two worked to help keep the vehicle’s position in traffic while lowering the severity and mitigating collisions.

Today’s Honda Sensing technology looks quite a bit more advanced than the first generation. Now standard or available on all Honda models, Honda Sensing includes a long list of technologies that are proven to keep drivers safer on the road. First up is the Collision Mitigation Braking System, a technology first introduced by Honda. Used side by side with the Forward Collision Warning, the system will automatically brake if it detects an impending collision in order to reduce the severity of impact. Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when they stray out of their lane with the Lane Keeping Assist System that uses a camera and corrective steering measures. Finally, the Adaptive Cruise Control system allows the driver to set a speed and keeps it that way while keeping a safe distance from any vehicles ahead, reducing traffic and stress.
Included on some of the newest Honda models are the latest in Honda Sensing features. Traffic Jam Assist works with Lane Keeping Assist and Advanced Cruise Control, utilizing light steering assist at speeds below 45 MPH. Traffic Sign Recognition uses a camera to automatically recognize traffic signs, displaying the information on the instrument panel or Head-Up Display. The Driver Attention Monitor is among the latest in driver assist technologies, warning the driver as they become less alert and aware and advising a brake when necessary.
